Two Records Fall at Fredonia State Jan 20, 2007 Results (.pdf) FREDONIA, N.Y. – Two Allegheny College records fell at the Fredonia State Mary Phillips Invitational on Saturday. Senior Devin Cruea (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) shattered his previous school record set earlier this season in the weight throw, while sophomore Joe McMahon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) broke an eight year old school record in the triple jump. Each distance also marked an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark. Cruea took second overall in the weight throw with a toss of 54-10.75, while also taking second in the shot put. His second place in the shot put was the middle of a three-person sweep for Allegheny, with Frank Tupta (University Heights, Ohio/Hawken) winning with a toss of 47-10, and Pat Confer (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) taking third with a distance of 43-9.25. All three distances qualified for the NCAC Championships in Granville, Ohio on March 2 and 3. McMahon, who also set a personal best in the long jump, winning the event with a distance of 21-4, took first of two competitors in the triple jump. His leap placed himself among the nation’s best with a distance of 46-4, breaking the former school record set by Mike Erb in 1998. Cross country All-American Marco Dozzi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) took first in the 3,000-meter run, leading an Allegheny 1-3 sweep with a time of 9:06.5. Ben Mourer (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) and Garrett Piispanen (Fruita, Colo./Fruita Monument) placed second and third in the race with times of 9:13.6 and 9:25.8, respectively. Sophomore Matt Yurky (Homer City, Pa./Homer-Center) took first in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.46, with Jeremy Walker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) taking second in the 55-meter dash, sprinting to a career-best time of 6.77, qualifying for the NCAC Championships. Chas Moore-Seymour narrowly missed the NCAC championship qualifying mark in two events, the 55-meter dash (6.91) and the 200-meter dash (24.23), taking third in the former and second in the latter. The Gators next take to the track on January 26, when the team will travel to the Penn State University National Open on Friday night, before traveling to Granville, Ohio to compete in the NCAC Relays, hosted by Denison University.
