NORTH AURORA, Ill. – Five Allegheny College football players, Josh Whiteside (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), Mario Tarquinio (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi), Dallas Robinson (Wooster, Ohio/Northwestern), Jimmy Savage (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) and Jason Black (Warren, Ohio/Champion) have been named to the Don Hansen Football Gazette All-North Region squad, announced on January 16.

Whiteside, a junior, was the long representative on the second team. The kicker ended the 2006 season having put six of his seven field goal attempts through the uprights, with his only miss coming via a block against Wabash. He had a season-long 47-yard field goal attempt against Ohio Wesleyan, booting the ball through the driving wind and rain. He also converted 37-of-40 extra points, giving him 55 points on the season, third best on the squad. This is the third postseason honor for Whiteside, as he was also named First Team All-North Region by d3football.com, and First Team All-North Coast Athletic Conference.

Tarquinio was named a third-team running back. The senior ended his four-year playing career with the Blue and Gold with a 1,202-yard season in which he scored nine times. He ended his career with 3,187 rushing yards, becoming just the fourth running back in school history to eclipse the 3,000-yard plateau. His 1,202 yards marks the fifth best single season total in school history, now giving him the fifth and sixth best marks. He also missed the single game school record in rushing yards against Kenyon, rushing for 252, just seven off of the record. He was also named Second Team All-NCAC this season.

Robinson, a senior wide receiver, was also named to the region third-team. He finished his 2006 season with 795 yards receiving on 56 catches, 11 of those going for touchdowns. He ended the season with the third most single season catches and the fifth most receiving yards in school history, while his 11 touchdowns is the second highest total in the Allegheny football record books. He was earlier named to the All-NCAC honorable mention squad.

Savage, a senior quarterback, smashed nearly every single season school record during the season. He set school records in pass completions (202), attempts (331), yards (2,472) and touchdowns (24). He ended his playing career with 5,181 passing yards, becoming just the third quarterback in school history to become a member of the 5,000-yard passing club. He also finished his career with the second highest totals in pass attempts and completions. In addition, he rushed for a pair of touchdowns on the season, rushing 63 times for 203 yards. He was also named Honorable Mention All-NCAC.

Black, a junior punter, was earlier named to the First Team All-NCAC squad after leading the conference in punting, averaging 37.8 yards on his 27 attempts. He stopped six punts inside of the opponents’ 20-yardline, pushing his career total to 26. His career punting average of 37.7 yards per kick is the third best in school history.
