Boxscore

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Allegheny College women’s basketball team used a 13-2 run over the final 5:19 of its game at Oberlin College Monday night to pull away for a 60-44 North Coast Athletic Conference win and run its streak of victories to six games. The Gators improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in league play this season.

For the third consecutive game, senior Becca Gasiewicz (Grove City, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) matched her career-high in scoring, posting a team-high 14 points on 4-of-13 shooting from the field. Gasiewicz nailed three shots from three-point land and added three free throws as well. Fellow classmate Katie Kestler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) added a dozen points and was one off her career-high with seven rebounds.

Allegheny, which has won each of the last 15 meetings with Oberlin dating back to the 1998-99 season, found itself in a tight contest for much of the game as the host Yeowomen (4-5, 0-2 NCAC) kept the deficit to within seven through the first half and cut it to one with just one (28-27) with 1:47 before halftime. Gasiewicz gave the visitors a four-point cushion at the break with her first three-pointer of the game at 1:27.

Oberlin once again cut the deficit to just one at 35-34 early in the second half before Gasiewicz struck again, nailing a pair of longballs sandwiched around a Yeowomen bucket to up the advantage to five (41-36) at 13:11. That’s where the lead was at 5:57 when Allegheny reeled off its run to close the game, highlighted by a pair of three-point field goals by Kestler.

The Gators handily won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding Oberlin 47-34 in the game, including pulling down 17 offensive rebounds. Senior Jennifer Latronica (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) led the way with eight boards to go with 11 points and two blocked shots, while freshman Emilie Simone (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) ripped down seven caroms.

Sophomore Stephanie Wolf (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) put together another all-around game with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal. Classmate Maggie Mucha (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) also established a personal best with six points on three field goals.

The iron was unkind to the Yeowomen in the second half as the team combined for only 6-of-28 (.214) shooting from the field in the period. Oberlin had three players reach double-figures with Alyssa Clark leading the way with 12. Jessie Oram and Roneisha Kinney each tallied 10 points, with the latter grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.

Allegheny looks to keep its streak intact with a non-conference road trip to Grove City College on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m.
