December 9, 2006

Day 1 Results (.pdf)

KENT, Ohio – Allegheny College junior Elizabeth Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) picked up where she left off a season ago in the weight throw, as she broke her own school record, and provisionally qualified to the NCAA Division III National Meet at the season-opening Kent State University Golden Flash Gala.

Earley, who had a career-best and school-record toss of 50-11.0 last season missed the national meet by just two places and six inches. Friday night, Earley used a toss of 51-0.25 to break her own school record, and become the first qualifier for the national meet hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Also competing at Kent State on the first day were a pair of 5,000-meter runners, with Michelle Corkum (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) finishing the 3.1-mile race in a time of 18:36.32, nearly 40 seconds better than her 2005-06 best time.

Competition continues tomorrow, December 9 at the Golden Flash Gala.
