NORWALK, Conn. – Allegheny College kicker Josh Whiteside (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) was named to the D3football.com All-North Region team, announced on Friday, December 8.
Whiteside, converted six of his seven field goal attempts on the year, including booting a career-long 47-yard field goal in the driving wind and rain against Ohio Wesleyan, pictured at left, the third longest field goal in school history. The only field goal that was missed for the junior was a block against Wabash. Whiteside also hit 37-of-40 extra points, making him the third highest scorer on the team.
The junior has converted 11-of-15 field goals for his career, and 53-of-57 extra points during his two years, giving him 86 points, the most for a returning player on Allegheny’s roster. He is just 32 points shy of moving into fourth in career kicking points, with Nick Nardone (1975-78) sitting at 118 career points.
The 2006 Gators went 6-4 on the year, with the four losses coming from teams that had a combined 33-10 record. Two of those losses, Washington & Jefferson and Wittenberg, were to teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Allegheny kicks off its 2007 season by hosting local rival Westminster College on September 1 at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.
