Five Gators Earn All-NCAC Honors Nov 15, 2006 All-NCAC Team (.pdf) CLEVELAND – Five players off of the 2006 Allegheny College women’s soccer team earned All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors. Christy McShea (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and Emily Spencer (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) were each named to the second team, while Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and Robin Bunch (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) were both named to the honorable mention squad. McShea, a sophomore, led the Gators in scoring, putting nine shots into the back of the net, while also dishing out here assists, giving her 21 points on the year. Allegheny was 9-0 on the season when McShea scored a goal, and 1-7-1 when she did not. Murphy, also a sophomore, scored six goals and dished out four assists, tied for the most points per game of the midfielders on any of the three teams. This is Murphy’s second All-NCAC honor in her short career, as she earned honorable mention honors as a freshman. Spencer, a senior, dished out two assists on the year, while helping a defense that gave up just 20 goals on the year, while picking up eight shutouts. Hughes, a junior, finished second on the team in goals with seven, while her 16 points tied for second highest on the squad. Also a standout lacrosse player, this is Hughes’ third All-NCAC award, after being named First Team All-League in 2005 and 2006 with the sticks. Bunch, the second senior defender to win a league award this year from the Gators, was also a part of the stellar defensive effort for the squad. This is her second All-League honor, as she was named to the honorable mention team a season ago. The 2006 Gators finished the year with a 10-7-1 overall record, going 3-4-1 in league play. The team had their share of ups and downs during the season, with the highs coming at the very end of the year. The Gators defeated then-24th ranked Wooster and tying eventual NCAA Second Round team Wittenberg in the final weekend of the season. The Gators lose three seniors to graduation, Spencer, Bunch and midfielder Mackenzie Mosher (Walkill, N.Y./Walkill), but return their entire front line and every player that scored a goal last year.
