Preseason Poll

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Allegheny College Gators, the 2005-06 North Coast Athletic Conference regular season runner-ups were picked to finish third at the 23rd annual NCAC Media Day, which was held this morning via teleconference.

The Gators picked up 54 votes in the coaches poll, a vote ahead of fourth place Kenyon, while getting 133 votes in the media poll, five ahead of the Ladies from Gambier. Denison University, the 2005-06 NCAC Tournament champions were picked in both polls at the top spot, earning seven of the nine first-place votes in the coaches poll and 14 of the 22 in the media poll.

Wittenberg, who earned two first place votes from the coaches and six from the media, was picked to finish second overall, while Kenyon, Ohio Wesleyan and Wooster fell in at fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in both polls.

The Gators open their 2006-07 season by hosting the National City Tip-Off Tournament, which brings in LaRoche, Ohio Northern and Bethany to Meadville. The opening game, on November 17, pits LaRoche against the Gators at 6:00, before Ohio Northern and Bethany face off at 8:00. The consolation game is at 1:00 on Saturday, with each of the game’s winners facing off at 3:00 for the tournament championship.
