Gators Fall Short at Denison
Oct 21, 2006 Boxscore
GRANVILLE, Ohio – In a key men’s soccer match up in the North Coast Athletic Conference, Allegheny College came up just short on the road against Denison University, falling by a 1-0 score on Saturday afternoon. The Gators drop to 10-3-2 overall on the year, including a 4-3 mark in the NCAC.
Allegheny had a chance to make a move up the standings against the second-place Big Red (9-4-1, 6-1-0 NCAC), but it couldn’t find the offensive touch that led it to score six goals in its last two contests.
Following a scoreless first half of play in which the Gators out-shot the hosts 9-4, Denison recorded the first tally as Luke Lennox chipped in a pass from Andy Leindecker in the 63rd minute. The Allegheny offense didn’t get any better from there, firing off just two second-half shot attempts in addition to playing a man down because of a red card given in the 68th minute.
Denison goalie Kevin Donahue stopped all five shot attempts he faced to pick up the win, while Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) made four saves for the Gators.
Allegheny will aim to rebound and remain in playoff contention with another road contest against Hiram College on Tuesday, October 24, at 4:30 p.m.
