OWU Proves Too Much for Gators
October 20, 2006
DELAWARE, Ohio – Allegheny College found itself outmatched and outgunned at Ohio Wesleyan University, falling to the host Battling Bishops (8-4-4, 4-2-0 NCAC) by a 5-2 score in a North Coast Athletic Conference women’s soccer battle.
The Gators (9-7, 2-4 NCAC) couldn’t do much to stop the Ohio Wesleyan offensive as the Bishops knocked home each of the first five goals of the game, marking the highest scoring output of the season against Allegheny. Lindsey Macklin and Caitlin Logan handed the hosts a 2-0 halftime lead with a pair of scores just seven minutes apart in the first period.
Ohio Wesleyan, which held a 15-3 shot advantage at the break, added three more goals in the first 25:00 of the second stanza, kick-started by Allie Cozzone’s goal just 4:28 in.
Junior Rebecca Rotoloni (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) finally put the visitors on the board in the 80th minute, connecting on a shot from the right side of the box for her first score of the fall. She added an assist to her day just five minutes later when freshman Ana Gonzalez (Compton, Calif./Dominguez Senior) converted a breakaway for her first career goal.
Allegheny keeper Michelle Welker (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) finished one off her career-high with eight saves, while Ali Gary picked up the win for the Bishops by making two saves in the first 45:00.
The Gators will look to get back on track against one of the top teams in the NCAC, The College of Wooster (11-4-1, 4-1-1 NCAC), on Wednesday, October 25, at 3:30 p.m. in Wooster, Ohio.
