Savage Named Semifinalist for Draddy Trophy Oct 20, 2006 Official National Football Foundation Release
This season Savage has come into his own, throwing for a career-high 1,646 yards on 133-of-217 passing with 15 touchdowns through just six games. He broke the single-game passing marks in yards (400), completions (38) and attempts (58) in a loss to Wabash, and is closing the gap on single season records in each of his season totals. He currently ranks fifth on the career passing yardage list, third on career attempts and second in completions. Through his three years as a starting quarterback, he has completed 392 of his 656 passes for 4,325 yards and 32 touchdowns.
Launched in 1959, the NFF scholar-athlete program became the first initiative in history to credit a player for both academic and athletic accomplishments. The Draddy, first awarded in 1990, adds to the program’s mystique. Past Draddy winners include two Rhodes Scholars, a Rhodes Scholar finalist, a Heisman winner. Notable winners include Peyton Manning in 1997 and Chad Pennington in 1999, both currently starting quarterbacks in the National Football League. The Gators are currently 4-2 on the season, having bettered last season’s win total with a 49-38 shootout victory over the Lords of Kenyon College. The squad faces off against the Fighting Scots of The College of Wooster on Saturday, October 21, with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
