Gators Retain Regional Ranking
Oct 18, 2006 Regional Rankings (.pdf)
MEADVILLE, Pa. – For the second-straight week, the Allegheny College men’s soccer team was tabbed as the No. 5 team in the Great Lakes Region in the latest NSCAA/adidas® rankings. The Gators, 10-2-2 overall on the season and 4-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, have retained their top-five regional ranking in each of the seven polls released by the popular soccer organization this fall.
As usual, the Great Lakes Region has been one of the toughest areas across Division III. The four teams ahead of Allegheny own a combined record of 42-4-8, led by undefeated Ohio Wesleyan University (10-0-2), which captured the No. 1 position for the seventh consecutive week. Baldwin-Wallace College (10-1-1) and Case Western Reserve University (11-2-1) swapped positions from a week ago, with the Yellow Jackets moving into the second slot and the Spartans falling back to No. 3, while Ohio Northern University (11-1-4) jumped over the Gators into fourth.
Allegheny is coming off a pair of impressive victories in the NCAC last week and has won four of its last five contests overall. Despite a continuous downpour, the Gators easily disposed of rival College of Wooster, the No. 8 team in the region, by a 3-1 score. For an encore, Allegheny picked up its seventh team shutout this fall by going on the road and blanking Earlham College 3-0 last Saturday.
The Gators face off with league rival Denison University (7-4-1, 4-1-0 NCAC) this weekend in Granville, Ohio, at 1 p.m. The Big Red have won four of their last five contests and are currently tied with Allegheny for second-place in the NCAC.
