MEADVILLE, Pa. – In just its second season of varsity competition, the Allegheny College women’s golf team has made a name for itself on the national level. Not only did the Gators compete at the NCAA Division III Championships this past spring, but they have been voted onto the national polls released by the National Golf Coaches Association on a consistent basis, including a ranking of No. 20 in the most rest edition published on October 4.

After finishing third at the season-opening Baldwin-Wallace Invitational, the Allegheny golfers went up against top-notch Division I and II competition at each of its next three events. The Gators finished no worse-for-wear, finishing in the middle of the pack at the Mercyhurst Invitational and Bucknell Invitational, and latching onto a runner-up finish at the Vulcan Invite hosted by California (Pa.) University. At its most recent event, Allegheny roasted the field by 16 strokes to capture its very own Allegheny Invitational – the first ever home event for the team.

The Gators are posting an average of 92.76 strokes as a team this fall, led once again by sophomore Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South). Bruckner, who paced the team with an 85.57 average last season, has notched an even better mark so far this fall, posting just 84.75 strokes per round. She has finished top 10 at all four events, including capturing medalist honors at the Allegheny Invite with a season- and team-best round of 77.

Sophomore Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) is second on the team with an average of 86.38 and has two top-10 showings to her credit, while junior Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central) has accumulated an average of 87.00 strokes and three top-10 showings. Sophomore Lauren Torso (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) and freshman Kim Elam (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) round out the Gator starting five with 93.25 and 94.25 strokes per round, respectively.

Allegheny concludes the fall portion of its schedule at the Rhodes Collegiate Classic on October 16-17. Next spring, the Gators resume competition on March 23-25 by taking part in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic.
