RICHMOND, Ind. – The Allegheny College Gators (9-5-0, 2-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) shut out their second straight opponent with a 2-0 victory over the Quakers of Earlham College (7-6-0, 2-2 NCAC) on Saturday afternoon. Freshman goalkeeper Michelle Welker (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) picked up her sixth shutout in a dozen games, lowering her goals against average to 0.65 on the season by picking up three saves in the win.
The two teams played to a scoreless first 35 minutes, before junior Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) took a pass from Jillian Bolton (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton Central) and beat the keeper, giving the Gators their eventual game-winning goal.
Neither team was able to reach the scoreboard again until the 89th minute, when Christy McShea (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season, improving the team to 8-0 when she scores a goal, this one assisted by Bolton, her second of the game.
The Gators next take to the pitch on Tuesday, October 17, as the squad takes on the Yeowomen of Oberlin College at the Frank B. Fuhrer Field in Meadville, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
