MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny College and College of Wooster men’s soccer teams, ranked No. 5 and No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region, respectively, have a history of close, competitive matches in recent years. That trend did not hold true Wednesday night at Frank B. Fuhrer Field as the host Gators swamped the Fighting Scots for a 3-1 victory in North Coast Athletic Conference action.

Allegheny (9-2-2, 3-2-0 NCAC), which has now handed Wooster (8-2-1, 2-1-1 NCAC) losses in three of the last four meetings, handled the consistent rainfall throughout the night with ease in the first half, racing out to a 2-0 lead by the break. The Gators notched their first goal in impressive fashion as Jeremy Garbutt (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School) sliced a corner kick to a waiting Daniel Carik (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) for the header at 12:29.

Senior Mark Dobish (New Wilmington, Pa./New Wilmington) stole the show late in the first and second halves with a pair of scores, tying him for the team-lead with five this fall. His first came at 36:30 as he took a pass from the middle by James Fulton (New York, N.Y./Friends Seminary) and lobbed it over the outstretched hands of Scot keeper Erik Larson. Dobish had Larson’s number once again in the second, this time dashing down the field on a breakaway and maneuvering around the oncoming goalie for the easy tally.

Wooster avoided the shutout late in the game when sophomore Steve Fracasso blasted a shot from over 20 yards away into the upper left corner with just 43 ticks remaining.

Allegheny keeper Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) made all three of his saves in the second half, while his counterpart in the other goal, Larson, stopped five Gator shots, including a sliding save on a 2-on-1 breakaway by the hosts midway through the second half.

Allegheny makes the long trek to Richmond, Ind., this Saturday, October 14, for a conference tilt against Earlham College (6-7, 1-3 NCAC) at 2 p.m.
