GAMBIER, Ohio – For the first time this season, a team not ranked in the NSCAA/adidas® top-25 was able to take down the Allegheny College men’s soccer team as unranked Kenyon College pulled out a 1-0 decision over the Gators in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

The 21st-ranked Gators' (8-2-2, 2-2-0 NCAC) only loss prior to Saturday was a 2-1 decision to No. 5 Ohio Wesleyan University on September 23. The Lords (3-6-2, 1-1-1 NCAC), however, came out of nowhere to upend the visitors, ending a two-game losing streak.

Allegheny did not go without its share of opportunities, out-shooting the hosts 14-7, but Kenyon kept the Gators out of the goal thanks to the combined efforts of its two goalkeepers. Starter Jamie White stopped three shots from crossing the line in the first half, while teammate Elliot Forhan thwarted the same amount of attempts in the final stanza.

The only goal of the contest came in the 65th minute when David Gold converted a cross form Hans Wetzel from about eight yards out.

Seniors Mark Dobish (New Wilmington, Pa./New Wilmington Area) and Eric Sloan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) accounted for half of Allegheny’s shot attempts, while junior goalie Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) made three saves in the loss.

The Gators will aim to rebound against conference rival The College of Wooster (8-1-1, 2-0-1 NCAC) on Wednesday, October 11. Game time against the Fighting Scots, who downed Wittenberg University 2-0 on Saturday, is set for 7 p.m.
