Gators Sit in Second at Vulcan Invite

BELLE VERNON, Pa. – The Allegheny College Gators finished the first day of the Vulcan Invitational in second place overall. The Gators, who are the only Division III team in the field, put their four scorers within the top 20 in the field on the long, 6,060-yard Cedarbrook Golf Course.

Host California (Pa.) leads the field, carding a 343, while the Gators brought in a 359. Kutztown and Mercyhurst are closely trailing, having scores of 360 and 362, while Laval University is in fifth with a 367.

Pacing the squad through the first day was junior Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central), who carded an 85, good for a tie of fourth place overall, while Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) brought in an 89 for a tie of 11th. Lauren Torso (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) and Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) rounded out the scoring four for the Blue and Gold, carding scores of 92 and 93, placing 19th and 20th, respectively. Freshman Kim Elam (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) was the fifth placer for the Gators, shooting a 97 over the 18 holes.

Competition continues on Saturday, as the eight teams in the field compete for the team championship.
