Boxscore

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The 21st-ranked Allegheny College men’s team equaled its highest scoring output of the season with a 4-0 shutout of Oberlin College in North Coast Athletic Conference action under the lights at Frank B. Fuhrer Tuesday evening. The Gators improved their overall record to 8-1-2 this season, while their conference mark jumped to 2-1-0.

Allegheny jumped out early and late on the Yeomen (4-3-4, 1-1-1 NCAC) in the first half with a pair of assisted goals. The first occurred shortly after an apparent injury sidelined a player for the visitors. Playing a man down for a short period of time, the Oberlin back line could only watch as senior Alan Carr (Blairstown, N.J./Blair Academy) cut through the middle and chipped a one-timer to a streaking Nathaniel Yates (Cleveland Hts., Ohio/Cleveland Heights) on the right side. Yates blasted the ball right past a diving Clayton Combe, marking his second score of the fall.

The Gators upped their lead to 2-0 with just under four minutes remaining in the opening stanza on another connection as sophomore Jim Beyer (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) took a pass from Robert Del Greco (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) and smashed it into the lower right corner of the goal.

Allegheny once again went on the attack early in the second period, stretching the lead to 3-0 in the 51st minute. Carr was the benefactor this time, knocking away a loose ball from a defender and breaking away for his team-best fifth goal of the fall.

The hosts put the game out of reach just over 12 minutes later as Yates was fouled while making a move in the box. Awarded a penalty kick, junior defender Jeremy Garbutt (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School) blasted home his first goal of 2006 for the Gators.

Junior keeper Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) played all 90:00 in the net for Allegheny, making two saves en route to his sixth shutout this fall.

Allegheny hits the road this Saturday, October 7, with a trip to Gambier, Ohio, to battle the Lords of Kenyon College at 3:30 p.m.
