MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny College women’s soccer team erupted for three second-half goals, running out to a 4-1 victory over Washington & Jefferson College (5-4-1) on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The win pushes the Gators’ win streak to six games, as the team is now 6-2 after starting the season 0-2.

With the win, the Allegheny also improves to 3-0 on the season against President’s Athletic Conference teams, out-scoring those three opponents by a 9-2 margin.

The Presidents reached the scoreboard first, just 12:11 into the game when Beth Reefer scored off of an assist by Rachel Moses. 25 minutes later the Gators countered with Katie Murphy’s (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) first goal of the day off of a Jillian Bolton (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton Central) assist, sending the two teams into the locker room with the score knotted at one apiece.

Christy McShea (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) wasted little time in the second half, as she took a pass from Murphy and beat Jackie Foltz, the opposing keeper, far post, giving the Gators the eventual game-winning goal just 6:35 into the second half.

The Blue and Gold tacked on a pair of insurance goals, the first when Bolton found the back of the goal with a header that bounced off the right post, and trickled into the net, giving Allegheny the 3-1 lead. Murphy added the game’s final goal when she broke free on a long through pass, blasting the shot into the back of the net for the team’s fourth goal of the game.

Freshman goalkeeper Michelle Welker (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) improved to 6-0 as goalkeeper this season, stopping five shots en route to the win.

The next game for the Blue and Gold is on Tuesday, September 26 when the team plays host to the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon University starting at 4:30 p.m.
