The Allegheny College men’s soccer team retained its top-20 ranking in the NSCAA/adidas® national poll for the second consecutive week as the Gators are slated 19th among NCAA Division III. Allegheny also held onto the No. 3 position in the Great Lakes Regional poll, trailing only its two opponents this week – No. 1 Ohio Wesleyan University (5-0-0) and No. 2 Baldwin-Wallace College (7-0-0).

The Gators, who dropped three spots from last week’s poll, extended their unbeaten streak to seven (6-0-1) this fall with a pair of victories over squads from the Ohio Athletic Conference. In its first night game at Frank B. Fuhrer Field, Allegheny overcame a 45-minute lightning delay to pull out a 2-1 victory over Mount Union College. The Blue and Gold followed that win up with a dominating 3-0 decision at Marietta College, scoring a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes and cruising to the shutout win.

This week will be a true test of Allegheny’s merit against Baldwin-Wallace and Ohio Wesleyan. The Yellow Jackets tacked on three victories last week and jumped three spots to No. 12 in the national poll, while the Battling Bishops defeated DePauw University 3-0 and maintained their hold on their No. 3 national ranking. Both contests will be away match ups as the Gators travel to Baldwin-Wallace on Wednesday, September 20, at 7 p.m. before taking on Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio, on Saturday, September 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the first North Coast Athletic Conference game of the season.

Noteworthy, three of the top four teams in the regional poll are from the NCAC as The College of Wooster holds down the No. 4 spot. Not far behind is Hiram College, sitting in eighth with a record of 6-1-0.
