Gators Remain Unbeaten with 3-0 Win
Sep 16, 2006 Boxscore
MARIETTA, Ohio – The 16th-ranked Allegheny College men’s soccer remained unbeaten this fall with a 3-0 non-conference victory at Marietta College (1-5) on Saturday afternoon. The Gators picked up two goals in the opening 10 minutes of the game and had no problems the rest of the way in running their record to 6-0-1.
Allegheny notched the opening goal in just the seventh minute as senior Daniel Carik (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) used his height advantage to head in a corner kick from fellow classmate Ryan Kelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle). It marked Carik and Kelly’s first score and assist of the season, respectively.
Just 3:02 later, Kelly put his second goal of the season in the books, converting an open shot from just outside the box to put the lead at 2-0.
That would be all the scoring the visitors would need, but senior Alan Carr (Blairstown, N.J./Blair Academy) added an insurance goal in the 58th minute. It was his second goal of 2006.
The Gator defense anchored by Eric Sloan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), Jeremy Garbutt (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School), and Carik stifled the Pioneer offense, holding the hosts to just three shots in the game. Goalie Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) handled all three of those attempts in picking up his fifth shutout this season.
Allegheny will face a stiff test next week as it travels to Berea, Ohio, on Wednesday, September 20, to battle No. 15 Baldwin-Wallace College under the lights at 7 p.m.
