Gators Win Third Straight

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Allegheny College women’s soccer team improved to 3-2 on their season with their third straight win, a 2-0 decision over the Wolverines of Grove City College (4-2) on Wednesday afternoon.
The Gators picked up their second shutout in their last three games as Michelle Welker (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) stopped four Grove City shots in the two-goal victory.
Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) reached the scoring column first in the game when she took a pass from Meghan Borden (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and put the shot into the back of the net, providing the eventual game-winning goal.
The Blue and Gold added a late insurance goal when Christy McShea (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) took a pass from Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and beat the opposing keeper with 40 seconds left in the contest.
The next game for the Blue and Gold is on Saturday, September 16 when the team plays host to the Bobcats of Frostburg State University.
