The Allegheny College men’s soccer team continued its climb up the national rankings this week by jumping nine spots in the most recent NSCAA/adidas® Division III poll. The Gators were tied for 25th in the first regular season rankings released last week by the popular soccer organization before leaping over a handful of teams into a tie for 16th with previously unranked Centre (Ky.) College.
Allegheny shut down all three of its opponents last week, going 2-0-1 overall. The Gators began with a 0-0 tie in double overtime with John Carroll University, before posting a pair of 2-0 victories over Roanoke College and Greensboro College at the Roanoke Tournament on Sept. 9-10.
Allegheny, 4-0-1 overall on the season, also climbed the regional rankings, moving from fourth to third. The only Great Lakes Region schools ahead of the Gators in both polls are Baldwin-Wallace College (4-0-0) and Ohio Wesleyan University (4-0-0). The Yellow Jackets are one spot ahead in each ranking, while the Battling Bishops are the No. 1 team in the region and rank third in the national poll. Allegheny has both squads slated on this schedule this fall, first playing at Baldwin-Wallace on Wednesday, Sept. 20, and then turning around to take on Ohio Wesleyan in the first North Coast Athletic Conference game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Delaware, Ohio.
The Gators are set to battle a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference schools this week. First, they’ll host Mount Union College (1-2-1) under the lights at Frank B. Fuhrer Field on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. Then, Allegheny will head west to Marietta, Ohio, for a non-conference bout with Marietta College (1-3-0) on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 4 p.m.
