Sep 9, 2006

Boxscore

SALEM, Va. – Seniors Alan Carr (Blairstown, N.J./Blair Academy) and Mark Dobish (New Wilmington, Pa./New Wilmington) each picked up their first goals of the 2006 season as the Allegheny College men’s soccer team remained unbeaten (3-0-1) with a 2-0 decision over host Roanoke College on the first day of the Roanoke Tournament.

The game was deadlocked at 0-0 through the first 65 minutes of action until Carr, the Gators’ leading scorer a season ago, put the visitors on the board with his first goal of 2006 via an assist from sophomore Nathaniel Yates (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights). Just 11 minutes later, Dobish jumped into the scoring column with an unassisted goal to ice another Allegheny victory.

The Gator defense remained a strong point this season as it recorded its third consecutive shutout and ran its scoreless streak to 253:47. After being out-shot 5-2 in the first half, Allegheny went on lockdown and held the hosts to just three second half shots. All three of those attempts were swatted away by junior keeper Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), who lowered his goals against average from 0.31 to 0.24 this season.

Day two of the Roanoke Tournament pits Allegheny against Greensboro College on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 12:30 p.m.
