Gator Soccer Improves to 2-0

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Allegheny College improved to 2-0 on the young 2006 season with a 1-0 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (0-2) on Saturday afternoon in the second day of the Fred Myers Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
The Gators got their lone goal of the game with 23:52 remaining in the first half when Nathaniel Yates’ (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) shot was blocked by the Titan keeper, before Bob Del Greco (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle) found the rebound and buried it into the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
The defense prevailed for the final 76 minutes of the game, as goalkeeper Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) picked up seven saves en route to his first collegiate shutout between the pipes.
For their performances over the two games, Mark Dobish (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington Area), Eric Sloan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), Chris Fedele (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville) and Ryan Kelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle) were each named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Blue and Gold next take the pitch on Tuesday, September 5 when the John Carroll Blue Streaks come to Meadville for the 4:00 p.m. match.
