Women’s Soccer Falls Short in Season Opener
Sep 2, 2006 Box Score
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The 2006 season began on a sour note for the Allegheny College women’s soccer team as the Gators fell to host Nazareth College 3-0 in the first match of the Nazareth Tournament on a rainy, Saturday morning.
The Golden Flyers stifled the Allegheny offense in the first half, holding the visitors without a shot while attempting eight of their own. Two of those found their mark as Rachel Cushman and Sandi Toth gave Nazareth a 2-0 lead at halftime with goals at 16:38 and 44:31, respectively
The Gators faired better in the second stanza, equaling the hosts with five shots at the goal, but none found the back of the net. Rosie Simiele capped the scoring with a goal at 61:45 for the Golden Flyers.
Sophomore Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) led the offensive attack for Allegheny with two shots, while junior Danielle Brigham (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) faired well in her first career start between the pipes, stopping three shots.
The Gators will look to rebound on Sunday, September 3, with another tough contest at Nazareth against William Smith College, a 1-0 loser to Wittenberg University on Saturday.
