Sep 1, 2006

Box Score

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Allegheny College men’s soccer team started the 2006 season on the right foot with a 2-1 victory over the Olivet (Mich.) College Comets on a rainy Friday night in the first game of the Fred Myers Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.

Olivet reached the scoreboard first, before the Gators knotted the score at one apiece late in the first half when Chris Fedele (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville) took a pass from Mark Dobish (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington Area), and buried it into the back of the net, equaling his goal total from 2005 and sending the two teams into the locker room in a 1-1 tie.

The game remained tied until late in the second half, when defender Ryan Kelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle), pictured, scored an unassisted goal, giving the Blue and Gold a 2-1 victory.

Junior Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was in goal for the entire 90 minutes, picking up the win for the Gators.

The Blue and Gold take the pitch on Saturday, September 2 at 5:00 when they will face off against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, a team that was 11-6-0 in 2005, in each squad’s final game of the invitational.
