Academic Honors Earned by Werner
Jul 20, 2006 MEADVILLE, Pa. – The honors keep rolling in for the Allegheny College track and field teams as recently graduated senior Vince Werner (Sheffield, Pa./Sheffield) was named to the NCAA Division III All-Academic team by the United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, athletes needed to balance a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 with an NCAA qualifying standard in their event.
Werner, who graduated with a degree in physics this past May, closed an outstanding career at the NCAA Division III Championships on May 27 by earning All-America honors in the javelin via a seventh-place throw of 198 feet exactly. He also added his second consecutive All-North Coast Athletic Conference javelin title this spring with a toss of 188 feet, 6 inches, and was a four-time all-league honoree in the event, finishing second as a freshman and sophomore.
