Gator Lacrosse Team Picks Up Academic Honors

Jul 20, 2006

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny College women’s lacrosse program was recently named a 2006 Honor Squad by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), joining 34 teams from across NCAA Division III who were able to maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA throughout the 2005-06 academic year. In addition, three Gators were named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, including recently graduated seniors Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and Lindsay Vance (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), and rising senior Michelle Dudevoir (West Point, N.Y./O’Neil).

Rogerson, who earned her degree after double-majoring in neuroscience and psychology, was a four-year starter at midfield for the Gators, finishing fifth on Allegheny’s all-time scoring list with 101 points. She notched 76 goals and 25 assists during her career and was a first-team all-league selection in each of the past three seasons. In 2006, she scored a career-high 35 points on 24 goals and 11 assists. Additionally, Rogerson posted six hat tricks this past season, including one in a 9-7 win over Ohio Wesleyan University in the semifinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

A four-year starter at defender, Vance earned her degree as a double-major in economics and Spanish this past May. She was a key component of a defensive unit that posted an 8.63 goals against average this past spring and held 13 of 16 opponents to 10 goals or less. Additionally, Vance scored her first career goal in 2006 against Kenyon College.

Also sporting a double-major in neuroscience and psychology is Dudevoir, who is a three-year starter in the midfield. The soon-to-be-senior recorded her best season to date in 2006, grabbing honorable mention all-league status after tallying a career-high 29 points on 22 goals and seven assists. Dudevoir scored a season-high four goals on two occasions this spring, including against Denison University in the finals of the NCAC Tournament. For her career, she has accumulated 54 points on 41 goals and 13 assists.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Lynn Zlotkowski, the Gators ran off a school-record nine wins in 2006, finishing 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the conference. After upsetting defending tourney champion Ohio Wesleyan 9-7 in the semifinals, Allegheny came up short against Denison 11-7 to finish in second-place for the second time in the last three years.
