Werner Takes Seventh in Javelin at Nationals

LISLE, Ill. – Allegheny College senior Vince Werner (Sheffield), in his last throw as a collegian, had a season-best throw of 198-0 to take seventh place in the javelin at the NCAA Division III National Meet, hosted by Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois.

Werner improved in each of his first three throws of the competition, throwing a distance of 53.33 meters in his opening toss. He improved four centimeters to 53.37 on his second throw, and then improved by over six meters, advancing to the finals of the event.

Seeded eighth in the championships, Werner had a first toss of 55.57, before crossing the line on his next throw, fouling with a throw to go. In his final throw of his career, he threw a season-long 60.37 meters, 198-0, moving into seventh place overall, earning the first All-America honors of his four-year career.

Corey White of the University of Redlands won the event with a throw of 70.59 meters, over seven meters ahead of second place in the event.
