LISLE, Ill. – Allegheny College sophomore Emily Pfeufer (St. Marys/Elk County Catholic) placed eighth at the NCAA Division III National Championships, earning All-America honors for the first time in her career. Her leap of 11.56 meters in her second jump of the preliminaries earned her the honor.

Pfeufer led off the competition with a leap of 11.38 meters before busting out her meet-best 11.56 on her second jump. A leap of 11.41 ended the preliminary rounds, as she was ranked fourth of the first 10 jumpers.

Four jumpers with a longer leap than Pfeufer’s in the second flight put her as the eighth seed heading into the finals, where she started with a leap of 11.32. A fault in her second jump preceded a leap of 11.30 in her final jump of the competition, as she kept her place after the final set of three jumps, finishing eighth among the 20 competitors and earning the All-America distinction.

City College of New York’s Alecia Watson won the event, as she leapt to a distance of 12.47 meters on her second jump of the competition.
