LISLE, Ill. – Allegheny College sophomore Elizabeth Earley (Venetia/Peters Township) took 10th of 19 competitors at the NCAA Division III National Meet, hosted by Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. Earley had a toss of 162-2, missing the finals by a mere 16 inches.
Earley, the fifth competitor of the second flight, started off her event with a toss of 157-10, before tossing her meet best in her second attempt, 162-2. She finished her inaugural national meet with a throw of 158-8. Earley was sitting in ninth place with a spot in the finals with two throwers to go in the competition, before Kelsey Bishop of Springfield had a toss of 163-6, knocking Earley from the finals.
Keelin Godsey of Bates won the event in record-breaking fashion, with a toss of 206-5, breaking her own NCAA Division III meet record of 195-4 by nearly a meter and a half.
Earley was the lone Gator in competition today, as Emily Pfeufer (St. Marys/Elk County Catholic), Vince Werner (Sheffield) and Ryan Place (Meshoppen/Elk Lake) are all set to compete on Saturday, in the third and final day of the competition.
