Emily Deering Named First Team All-Region

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Allegheny College senior Emily Deering (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle) led a trio of Gators on the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-West Region squads. Deering earned First Team honors, while Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y.) and Ashley Hughes (Wexford/North Allegheny) were each named to the Second Team.

Deering has been a four-year All-Region honoree for the Gators. She is the school’s all-time leading goal and point scorer, and racked up 22 goals and seven assists last season for Allegheny. Deering was the team leader in ground balls with 61, draw controls with 36 and doubled the next closest Gator with 51 caused turnovers.

Rogerson, a three-time member of the All-Region team, was second on the Gators in scoring, pouring in 24 goals and dishing out 11 assists. She also picked up 39 ground balls, and caused 23 turnovers, second on the squad.

Hughes was the team scoring leader, scoring 34 goals and dishing out 13 assists, picking up 22 ground balls and winning 24 draw controls, second highest total on the team.

The Gators ended the 2006 season with a 9-7 record, the highest win total in program history, advancing to the championship game of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament for the second time in three seasons.
