HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Allegheny College women’s golf team kept a firm grip on their ninth place position at the 2006 NCAA Division III Nationals. The squad lowered their previous round score for the third consecutive day, shooting a third-day 348, nine strokes ahead of their finish from yesterday.

The event, which had a five-hour storm delay, is led by Methodist, who is running away with the title, as the squad is currently 54 strokes ahead of the second place team heading into the final day of the competition. The Gators’ three-day total of 1068 is ten strokes behind eighth place Hardin-Simmons, and is 17 strokes ahead of Southwestern in 10th place.

Each of the five posted lower or equal rounds to Wednesday, as Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) paced the squad with a ten-over 83, equal to her total on the second day. Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central) was not far off of the pace, shooting a 12-over 85, five strokes better than her second-day performance. Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and Erin Winings (Rockford, Ohio/Parkway) tied for the scoring position for the Blue and Gold, each carding a 90, 17 strokes over par. Lauren Torso (Zelienople/Seneca Valley) finished fifth for the Gators, shooting a 23-over 96, three strokes better than her total from a day ago.
