Gators Keep Ninth Spot at Nationals
May 10, 2006 HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Allegheny College Gator women’s golf team bettered their first day score by six strokes, but were unable to move from their ninth place finish from the first day, as they head into the third day of the four-day tournament in ninth place with a two-day score of 720.
The Blue and Gold are still 12 stokes ahead of 10th place Southwestern, and trail eighth place Hardin-Simmons by just seven strokes and Illinois Wesleyan by 22. Methodist, the 2000 through 2005 National Champions, lead the event by 37 strokes, 615-to-652 over DePauw.
The top Gator trio, Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), right, Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central) are separated by just three total strokes, as Bruckner shot a second-day 83, nine strokes better than her first day total, ending the second day with a total of 175 strokes. One behind her is Reints, who shot a second-day 93, putting her two-day total at 176. Coleman, after her second-day 90, is at 178 strokes. The trio is in 39th, 41st and 44th place, respectively.
Erin Winings (Rockford, Ohio/Parkway) bettered her first-day score with a 91, giving her a 192 in a tie for 54th, while Torso’s 199, after a 99 today, is tied for the 57th best score.
The Gators tee off tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. off of the back nine, as the squad will be teamed with Illinois Wesleyan and Hardin-Simmons, the teams directly in front of the Gators.
