Earley Improves National Seeding at B-W

BEREA, Ohio – Allegheny College sophomore Elizabeth Earley (Venetia/Peters Township) broke her own school record by nearly 10 feet, and improving her placing for the NCAA Division III National Meet with a hammer throw of 166-2 at the Sparky Adams Invitational hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College on Saturday.
Sarah Sammel (Pittsburgh/Bethel Park) placed 3rd in the pole vault, clearing a height of 11-0, while also meeting the NCAC qualifying mark in the 200-meter dash, sprinting to a time of 26.59, best on the team in 2006. Earley also had a season-best toss of 115-2.5 in the discus, while placing eighth in the shot put with a toss of 37-3.25.
The 800-meter duo of Carley Latus (Pittsburgh/Mt. Lebanon) and Lindsay Svetlak (Lowellville, Ohio) each qualified to the conference meet for the first time this year, Latus running a season team best time of 2:23.29, and Svetlak running a time of 2:24.20, third best for the Gators in 2006.
In the 400-meter hurdles, a pair of Gators, Heather Knupp (Canonsburg/Canon-McMillan) and Jessica Gratton (Bridgeville/Chartiers Valley) just missed the NCAC qualifying mark, with Knupp running a time of 1:11.54 and Gratton a 1:11.68, as the qualifying time was 1:11.51.
Senior Laura Schuh (Orchard Park, N.Y./Hamburg), cleared 4-11.5 in the high jump, while also meeting the NCAC qualifying mark in the javelin, with a toss of 96-8. Katie Pankowski (Pittsburgh/Woodland Hills) led the Gators in the javelin, placing third in the competition with a toss of 112-11.
The Gators compete on Thursday and Friday, May 4-5 at the NCAC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
