Allegheny Lacrosse Topples Oberlin 14-10

OBERLIN, Ohio – Led by a three-goal effort from Michelle Dudevoir (West Point, N.Y./O’Neill) and Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y.), the Allegheny College women’s lacrosse team defeated the Yeowomen of Oberlin College by a 14-10 final score on Saturday afternoon.
Oberlin led off the game with a pair of goals, taking a 2-0 lead 5:39 into the game, before the Blue and Gold scored the next five of the game, as Dudevoir and Anna Gordon (Portland, Maine/Deering) knotted the game at two with just over eight minutes to play in the first half. Ashley Hughes (Wexford/North Allegheny) and Rogerson scored back-to-back goals, just 41 seconds apart to push the Gator lead to 4-2, before Dudevoir scored her second goal of the game with 3:25 to play in the period. Allegheny and Oberlin traded goals, with Kelly Towns (Pittsburgh/Mt. Lebanon) scoring the Gators’ goal, before Oberlin ended the half with a goal, cutting the Allegheny lead to two at 6-4 at the break.
Laura Hoch (Moon Township/Sewickley Academy) started the scoring in the second half 1:50 into the period off of an assist by Hughes, before Oberlin cut the deficit to two once again at 7-5. Back-to-back-to-back goals from Rogerson (assisted by Hoch), Emily Deering (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and Towns gave Allegheny the 10-5 lead, as Oberlin used a goal halfway through the second period to cut the Gator deficit to four at 10-6. Allegheny responded with four straight goals, pushing the lead to 14-6, before cruising to the four-goal victory. Adding those four goals for the Blue and Gold was Rogerson, Jenna Balogh (Richfield, Ohio/Revere), Dudevoir and Hughes from a Rogerson assist.
Leading the Gators was Dudevoir and Rogerson, who each picked up six ground balls, while Deering and Balogh had five and four, respectively. Deering and Gordon were team leaders with three draw controls apiece, while goalkeeper Lesley Stange (Murrysville/Franklin Regional) stopped a dozen shots in picking up the victory.
The next game for the Blue and Gold is on Saturday, April 29 when the team plays host to Kenyon College in the final home game for the team’s six seniors, Rogerson, Deering, Gordon, Lindsay Vance (East Aurora, N.Y.) and Danie Parsons (Brook Park, Ohio/Magnificat).
