Boxscore

LATROBE, Pa. – The Allegheny College women’s lacrosse team fell in double overtime to St. Vincent on Thursday afternoon by a 10-9 score. Laura Hoch (Moon Township/Sewickley Academy) led the team with three goals in the losing effort.

Down 3-0, Emily Deering (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored the first goal of the game for the Blue and Gold, before Michelle Dudevoir (West Point, N.Y./O’Neill) scored the next two for the Gators. Kelly Towns (Pittsburgh/Mt. Lebanon) followed Dudevoir’s pair with a goal off of an assist by Ashley Hughes (Wexford/North Allegheny), before Lana Cannon (Peaks Island, Maine/Portland) scored from an assist by Dudevoir. The score 5-5, Deering scored from an Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y.) assist, before Hoch took over, scoring the next two goals, off of assists from Deering and Hughes, including the game-tying goal with 47 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Saint Vincent scored early in the first overtime, taking a 9-8 lead, but Hoch notched her third straight goal shortly thereafter, this one from Towns, tying the game at nine. The Gators threatened late, as a Hoch shot attempt hit the post at the end of the six-minute overtime period, bounding away and sending the contest into a sudden-victory period, where St. Vincent found the back of the net, giving the hosts the victory.

Allegheny keeper Lesley Stange (Murrysville/ Franklin Regional) stopped 13 shots in the game, her second highest total of the season, while Deering’s 11 ground balls and eight caused turnovers were both season highs.

The Gators take to the road on Saturday, April 22, as the team travels to Oberlin, Ohio to face off against the Yeowomen in a NCAC match-up starting at 1:00 p.m.
