Gators Run Past Yeowomen in Pair Apr 11, 2006 Game 1 Boxscore
In the first inning of game one, the Gators batted around, scoring five runs with the help of four hits and a pair of Yeowomen errors. The four Allegheny hits came in succession, as Brittany Rechtin (Spring City/ St. Pius X) (right) picked up an RBI double, preceeding RBI singles by Giannina Coccaro (Miami, Fla./ Palmetto), Stephanie Lasinski (Gibsonia/ Pine-Richland), and Lindsay Visco (Pittsburgh/ Brentwood). Coccaro was in the cirle for the Gators, and through the first three innings, she kept the Oberlin bats quiet, surrendering no hits and striking out five batters. In the bottom of the third inning the Gators tacked on another run, as a Rachel Ryan (West Salem, Ohio/ Northwestern) leadoff triple made way for a Rechtin RBI groundout.
The Gators would not need to hit again, as Becca Rich (Gibsonia/ North Allegheny) came in to close things out for Allegheny in the top of the fifth, striking out one and not allowing a hit, ending the game after five due to the mercy rule. Coccaro got the win, pitching four innings of one-hit ball, while striking out seven. The Gators had 13 hits in the game, one from every starter, with an extra hit apiece for Coccaro, Lasinski, Visco, and Piranian. Bodenlos plated three runs, while Rechtin, Lasinski, and Piranian drove in a pair of runs. Stolen bases were a large factor in the game, as Allegheny stole successfully on all 10 of its attempts, led by Burr’s trio of steals.
Through the top of the third inning Allegheny starting pitcher Brittany Rechtin was untouchable, picking up six strikeouts, five with the batter looking, and staying perfect in the process. In the bottom of the third the Gators scored their sixth run of the game, this one off a solo shot by Lasinski. The perfect game would be broken up in the fourth inning, as a two-out single by Oberlin’s Alie Plotsky gave the visitors their first base runner. Another hit would follow, but Rechtin would get out of the inning without allowing a run. Oberlin would go down in order in the fifth inning, and that would be the team’s last time up, having totaled just two hits in the game and three on the day. Unearned runs in the fourth and fifth innings gave Allegheny its seventh and eighth runs, again enough of a cushion to bring the mercy rule into effect. In game two it was Ptacek who had the hot bat, amassing three hits in four at-bats, scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs. Bodenlos and Ryan also had multi-hit games, each going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. The shutout was the second of Rechtin’s rookie campaign, and the seven strikouts were a career high. Allegheny will look to continue its strong play this Saturday, April 15 when the team travels to Kenyon for a 1:00 p.m. conference double-header.
