Gators Place Eighth at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Allegheny Gators placed eighth of 21 teams at the Jekyll Island Invitational, a three-day event hosted by Oglethorpe University.

The Blue and Gold shot a third-round total of 338, eight strokes better than their first day total, and 20 better than yesterday’s score, giving the Gators, currently ranked 17th in Division III, a three-day total of 1,042.

Barry College, the eighth ranked team in Division II, won the event, while Harvard placed second. The Savannah College of Art and Design, the ninth ranked team in the NAIA, placed third, while St. Thomas, currently ranked fifth in Division III, placed fourth overall. #2 DePauw and #9 Southwestern placed fifth and sixth, while Middlebury and Allegheny placed seventh and eighth, respectively.

Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenview South) led the Gators with a third-day total of 81, giving her 247 for the tournament. Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) was just behind Bruckner on the final day, shooting an 82, while carding a three-day total of 252, just off of Bruckner’s pace. Erin Winings (Rockford, Ohio/Parkway) shot a third-day total of 87, while Lauren Torso (Zelienople/Seneca Valley) and Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central) shot an 88 and 90, respectively, on the final day. Coleman and Winings ended the three days with matching 271’s, while Torso shot a 273. Also competing for the Gators was Jen Vota (Elizabeth/Elizabeth Forward), who shot a third-round total of 104, just off of her 103 from a day ago.

Notable ranked teams to place behind the Gators include fourth ranked Illinois Wesleyan, #12 Otterbein, #14 Hardin-Simmons, #15 Wellesley, #19 St. Lawrence, #21 Oglethorpe, #23 McMurry and #24 Mt. Holyoke.

The next event for the Blue and Gold is on Saturday and Sunday, April 1 and 2, when the team travels east to compete in the McDaniel Invitational. Tee times start at noon on the first day, and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.
