Gators Compete at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Vince Werner (Sheffield) placed third in the javelin, missing the NCAA provisional mark by 4-7.5 feet, less than the length of the javelin at the Slippery Rock Invitational held on Saturday, March 25.
Five different Gators were in competition in the meet, which saw a second place finish from Pat Confer (Bradford) and Kitt Tuttle (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams), Confer’s in the shot put and Tuttle’s in the hammer throw. Confer tossed the weight 43-4.5, meeting the NCAC qualifying standard, while Tuttle’s toss of 114-7 in the hammer was just off the qualifying mark.
Tuttle also competed in the shot put and discus throw, placing 10th in both with bests of 39-10.5 in the shot put and 110-8 in the discus. Mike Fisher (Erie/McDowell) placed fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 84-5, while placing 14th in the shot put with a heave of 38-2.5.
Matt Yurky (Homer City/Homer Center) placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 40-10.0, meeting the NCAC Championships standard, while placing 10th in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 18-4.25.
The Blue and Gold next hit the track for a competition on March 31 and April 1, as the team competes in the Western Pennsylvania Championships, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University.
