Gator Women Sit Eighth at Jekyll Island
Mar 25, 2006 JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. –The Allegheny College women’s golf team currently sits in eighth place in a tournament whose field consists of 21 teams, 14 of which are nationally ranked.
After shooting a blistering 346 on the first day, the Gators put up a second-round score of 351 on a windy day at the Jekyll Island Invitational, good for eighth place overall. Barry College, ranked eighth in Division II led the way on the day with a round of 310. Division I Harvard and the Savannah College of Art and Design, #9 in the NAIA are in second and third, respectively.
Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) followed up her first day total of 88 with an 82, while Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) shot an 84, a day after shooting an 82. Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central) and Lauren Torso (Zelienople/Seneca Valley) rounded out the scoring four for the Blue and Gold with rounds of 91 and 94. Erin Winings (Rockford, Ohio/Parkway) shot a 98, while Jen Vota (Elizabeth/Elizabeth Forward) shot a 103, 13 strokes better than her first day total.
St. Thomas (#5 Division III), DePauw (#2 Division III), Southwestern (#9 Division III) and Wellesley (#15 Division III), all ranked by the National Golf Coaches Association, are ahead of the 17th ranked Gators, Wellesley by as few as four strokes. Notable teams chasing the Gators include #4 ranked Illinois Wesleyan, #12 Otterbein, #14 Hardin-Simmons, #19 St. Lawrence, #21 Oglethorpe, #23 McMurry and #24 Mt. Holyoke.
The competition concludes tomorrow, March 26.
