Mar 24, 2006 Boxscore
WELLINGTON, Fla. – The Allegheny College women’s lacrosse team fell 9-8 to the Wellesley College Blue, the Gator’s first loss to the 2006 season, dropping their record to 2-1 on the season. Senior Emily Deering’s (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle) assist 8:28 into the first half put her as the top scorer in school history.
Wellesley jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, including finding the back of the net 11 seconds into the contest, as the Blue would not trail in the contest. The Gators fought back with a pair of goals from Laura Hoch (Moon Township/Sewickley Academy) and Ashley Hughes (Wexford/North Allegheny), tying the game at two apiece. Hoch’s goal was the record setter for Deering, while Hughes’ came on a free position shot. Wellesley pulled ahead 4-3 before Deering scored her fifth goal of the season, pushing her two points ahead of the old scoring record.
Wellesley added another goal a little over a minute later before Hoch countered with her second goal of the contest off of an assist from Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y.). The Blue scored a goal with five minutes left in the first half, sending Wellesley into halftime with a 5-4 lead.
Wellesley scored the first three goals of the second half, putting the Gators in a 8-4 hole, before the Blue and Gold started climbing their way back. Hughes and Danie Parsons (Brook Park, Ohio/Magnificat) added back-to-back goals, cutting the deficit to 8-6 before Katie Mosely of Wellesley added the eventual game-winner with 17:18 left in the game. Amanda Urick (Smithton/Yough) and Lana Cannon (Peak Island, Maine/Portland) added goals, both assisted by Michelle Dudevoir (West Point, N.Y./O’Neill), but could not net the tying goal, falling 9-8.
Rogerson led the team with seven shots, while Hughes picked up four ground balls and Deering forced a quartet of turnovers. Leslie Stange (Murrysville/Franklin Regional) picked up the loss, stopping 14 shots in the 60 minutes.
The next game for the Blue and Gold is on Friday, March 31 when the team plays host to SUNY-Geneseo at 4:30 p.m.
