RICHMOND, Va. – Allegheny College sophomore Elizabeth Earley (Venetia/Peters Township) smashed her own school record in the hammer by nearly 10 feet at the Virginia Commonwealth University Ram Invitational on March 18.

Earley and Katie Pankowski (Pittsburgh/Woodland Hills) were the only Gators to travel to this spring break meet, as both nearly met NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standards.

Earley heaved the weight 150-3 (45.81 meters), nearly 10 feet further than her previous record of 140-8 set last season. With that distance, she stands just eight inches away from the provisional mark of 150-11 (46.00). With her toss, she placed third overall, ahead of numerous Division I athletes. In the shot put, Earley placed 10th overall, with a best toss of 38-9.5 (11.82 meters).

In the javelin, Pankowski placed eighth with a toss of 121-5 (37.07 meters), just over six feet from the provisional qualifying mark of 127-7 (38.89 meters).

The Gators next take to the track on March 31 and April 1 when the team travels to Pittsburgh to compete in the Western Pennsylvania Championships hosted by Carnegie Mellon.
