Gators Dominate at First Day of NCAC’s

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Allegheny College men’s track and field team is currently sitting in 1st place after the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Denison University.

The Gators hold a 43-point advantage over the field with 58 points, while Ohio Wesleyan is in second place with 15 points after the day’s three scored events, as the remaining eight teams have scored a combined 59 points.

Leading the way for the Blue and Gold was the trio in the 5,000-meter run, as Ryan Place (Meshoppen/Elk Lake) (right) took first with a time of 15:03.07. Ben Mourer (Chicora/Karns City) and Chris Corkins (Horseheads, N.Y.) rounded out the Gator sweep with times of 15:04.02 and 15:17.28, all three season-bests.

Joe McMahon (Pittsburgh/Baldwin) (left) led a trio of scoring Gators with a season-best jump of 43-10, placing second overall. Sean Laird (Monroeville/Gateway) and Matt Yurky (Homer City/Homer Center) placed sixth and seventh, respectively, with leaps of 41-0 and 40-6.5, each, as Yurky’s total was a new season-best.

Pat Confer (Bradford) brought home the individual title in the shot put with a toss of 47-5, a season-best, while Frank Tupta (University Heights, Ohio/Hawken) and Kitt Tuttle (Alexandria/TC Williams) (bottom right) threw for distances of 46-1.75 and 46-0, Tuttle’s a season-best, placing third and fourth, each.

The competition continues tomorrow at 10:30 in the morning in the second day of the championships.
