Gator Women Lead after NCAC First Day

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Allegheny College women’s track and field team is currently sitting in 1st place after the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Denison University.

The Gators have scored 42 points in the first day, while Wooster has 31 after the first four events and Ohio Wesleyan has 29.

Three Gators scored in the triple jump, led by sophomore Emily Pfeufer (St. Marys/Elk County Catholic) (right), who jumped a personal best 37’2” to claim first place and provisionally qualify for nationals and set a NCAC Championship record. Placing in fifth and sixth, respectively, were senior Amanda Grilli (Washington/Trinity) and freshman Elyse Kebert (Meadville), who jumped 34-3.75 and 34-3, Kebert’s a season-high.

A pair of runner-up performances were turned in by sophomores Elizabeth Earley (Venetia/Peters Township) (left) and Sarah Sammel (Pittsburgh/Bethel Park) (bottom right). Sammel cleared 10’8” in the pole vault, while Earley earned second place by throwing the shot put 39-5.75, a season best.

Also placing in the shot put was freshman Sarah McMahon (Whitehouse Station, N.Y./Pingry School), who placed third overall with a toss of 36-0.5, a season-high by nearly eight inches.

Scarlett Graham (Farmington/Uniontown) took sixth in the 5,000-meter run, completing the 25-lap event in a time of 18:36.97.

The competition continues tomorrow at 10:30 in the morning in the second day of the championships.
