Women’s Track Competes at Oberlin Feb 25, 2006 Oberlin Last Chance Results (PDF) OBERLIN, Ohio – Members of the Allegheny College women’s track and field team were in action tonight in the Oberlin Open. Highlighting the evening was sophomore Sarah Sammel’s (Pittsburgh/ Bethel Park) performance in the pole vault, as she cleared 10’11.75” to place in a tie for first while also breaking the Heisman Field House record. Allegheny’s other top performances came from freshman Elyse Kebert (Meadville), sophomores Rebecca Aiken (Pittsburgh/ Fox Chapel) and Jesse Shields (Union City), and junior Heather Knupp (Canonsburg/ Canon-McMillan). Kebert placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 33’9.5”, and also placed second in the 55-meter hurdles, running a time of 9.34. Shields raced in the 55-meter hurdles as well, placing fourth in a season best 9.63 seconds. Knupp and Aiken had their strong performances in the 400-meter dash, as Knupp placed third in a season best time of 64.85 and Aiken finished fourth in a time of 65.27. Two Gator women were also in action on the weekend at Mount Union, as Emily Pfeufer (St. Marys/ Elk County Catholic) and Elizabeth Earley (Venetia/ Peters Township) made the trip in preparation for conferences. Pfeufer competed in the long and triple jumps, covering 17’4.25” and 36’00.75”, respectively, for first and second place. Earley tossed the shot put 39’00” to take second, and then took second again in the weight throw with a distance of 45’10”. The women’s team will be in attendance next weekend at the NCAC Championships March 3-4. Looking for their eighth NCAC Indoor Team Championship, the Gators will also be looking to repeat as champions.
