Men’s Track Wins Three at Oberlin Feb 25, 2006 Oberlin Last Chance Results (PDF) OBERLIN, Ohio – A handful of Allegheny College men’s track and field members competed tonight at the eight-team Oberlin Open. Leading the Gator athletes in their final tune-up for next weekend’s conference meet were freshmen Matt Hoy (Moon Township/ Moon), Erich Wittmer (Sewickley/ Sewickley Academy), and Matt Yurky (Homer City/ Homer Center). All three Gator newcomers took home first place finishes on the night. Hoy earned his spot at the finish after battling in the mile run. In a tight heat, Hoy ran a mature race for a freshman, and eventually out-kicked his competitors to the line in a personal best time of 4:26.05. Wittmer also had a personal best at Oberlin, as he cleared 13’11.75” in the pole vault. Yurky had two strong performances. In the 55-meter hurdles he ran a preliminary heat time of 8.32, his second best time of the season, and went on to place fifth in the finals. In the triple jump, Yurky traveled a collegiate best 40’2.25”, and finished first. Also in attendance at the meet was sophomore Tom Lee. Entering the night with a best of 9:41.20 in the 3,000-meter run, Lee dropped over 20 seconds by running a smart, tough race, finishing tenth in a time of 9:21.14. Two Gator men also made the trek to Mount Union this weekend, as Pat Confer (Bradford) and Devin Cruea (Geneva, Ohio) competed in the throws. Confer tossed the shot put 45’10” while Cruea had a mark of 42’10” in the weight throw. The men’s indoor track and field team will be in action again March 3-4, as the Gators look to four-peat at the NCAC Championships.
