Gator Women Break Two Field Marks

KENT, Ohio – The Allegheny College women’s track and field team was in action today at the Kent State Invitational in Kent, Ohio. The team competed extremely well against a slew of Division I, II, and III competition, and saw two school records fall in the process.
The record-breaking performance’s came from Elizabeth Earley (Venetia/ Peters Township) and Sarah Sammel (Pittsburgh/ Bethel Park) (right), as Earley bettered her NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the weight throw with an eleventh place distance of 50’11” and Sammel captured the school record in the pole vault, clearing 11’5.75” on the way to fourth place and an NCAA provisional mark of her own.
In more field event action, Emily Pfeufer (St. Marys/ Elk County Catholic) placed third in the long jump by covering 17’1.5” and Amanda Grilli (Washington/ Trinity) leaped into seventh place in the triple jump with a mark of 34’9”.
In the 55-meter dash Sammel and teammate Katie Stewart (Warren) had strong times, as Stewart crossed the line in 7.72 seconds and Sammel crossed in a season-best of 7.76 seconds. A pair of 800-meter runners also had great times, as Rashelle Glass (New Castle/Shenango) and Carley Latus (Pittsburgh/ Mt. Lebanon) had season bests of 2:19.43 and 2:23.87, respectively.
In the mile run, Molly McGravey (Orchard Park, N.Y.) placed third in a time of 5:12.52, while Latus was not far behind in a time of 5:19.85. At nearly double the distance McGravey was again strong, as she placed eighth in the 3,000-meter run in 10:39.91. Right on her heels was Scarlett Graham (Farmington/ Uniontown), who placed ninth in 10:43.84.
Next weekend the team heads to the Oberlin Invitational before the NCAC Indoor Championships begin on Friday, March 3.
