Gator Men Compete at Kent State

KENT, Ohio – The Allegheny College men’s track and field team competed today in the Kent State Tune-Up. Highlighting the night for the men was Kitt Tuttle (Alexandria, Va./ TC Williams) (right), who broke his own school record in the weight throw, tossing the 35-pound weight 46’10.25”.

Tuttle and the rest of the Gators were up against tough Division I, II, and III competition, and managed to contend extremely well. Other top field performances came from Conrad Rapp (Medway, Mass./ Worchester Academy) and Sean Laird (Monroeville/ Gateway). Rapp cleared a season-best of 14’11.75” in the pole vault while Laird leaped 21’5.5” in the long jump.

In the 55-meter dash, a trio of Gators had season-bests, as Chas Moore-Seymoore (Buffalo, N.Y./ St. Francis), Jeremy Walker (Greensburg/ Hempfield), and Marcus Solomon (Rockwell, Texas/ Dallas Christian) ran times of 6.78, 6.80, and 6.82, respectively. At the 400-meter sprint distance it was Aaron Rape (Zelienople/ Freedom Area) who was the top Gator, as he ran to a time of 50.35, and was just three-quarters of a second away from an NCAA provisional qualifying performance.

In middle-distance a pair of 800-meter runners had season-bests, as Garret Piispanen (Fruita, Colo./ Fruita Monument) and Craig Ball (Pittsburgh/ Penn Hills) ran times of 1:58.54 and 2:00.46, respectively.

The 3,000-meter runners also represented Allegheny well, as Ryan Place (Meshoppen/ Elk Lake) (8:28.85), Ben Mourer (Chicora/ Karns City) 8:41.81), Chris Corkins (Horseheads, N.Y.) (8:51.40), and Matt Smith (Sayville, N.Y.) (8:57.41) all had strong races.

Next weekend the team heads to the Oberlin Invitational to get its final tune-up before the NCAC Indoor Championships begin on Friday, March 3.
