Gator Women Win Fifth Straight

WOOSTER, Ohio – After trailing 32-29 at halftime, the Allegheny College Gators (11-7, 7-2 NCAC) used a 20-6 run to start the second period, taking a lead that they would not give up for the remainder of the game, handing the Wooster Scots (3-13, 1-7 NCAC) their 11th straight loss by a 70-52 count.
Jennifer Latronica (Gibsonia/Deer Lakes) (pictured) scored a team-high 12 points, pacing a balanced effort in which three players reached double figures and eight scored at least five points.
The Gators started hot, jumping out to a 7-2 lead before the Scots fought back, eventually taking a four-point lead halfway though the period. The Gators then took their turn to play catch-up, eventually taking a five-point lead with 6:10 to play in the half before a Wooster 10-1 run gave the hosts a lead that they would not give up for the remainder of the half, as the Blue and Gold ended the half down by three at 32-29.
The Blue and Gold started the second half scoring 20 of the first 26 points, taking an 11-point lead before cruising to the 18-point victory, out-scoring the Scots 41-20 in the second period.
Meghan Vasilisin (Munhall/Oakland Catholic) (pictured at left) and Courtney Steding (McDonald/Fort Cherry) each scored 10. Latronica pulled down a team-best six rebounds, while Caitlin Murtagh (Bethel Park/Seton-La Salle) dished out a team-high four assists.
Wooster was led by Carly Loehrke, who scored a game-high 20 points.
The next game for the Blue and Gold is on Saturday, January 28 when the team plays host to the Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University with tip-off set for 1:00 p.m. at the David V. Wise Center.
